olice Headquarters announced the deployment of additional police forces thr=
oughout the province, focusing on Mazar-e Sharif City. The presence of addi=
tional VCPs and police forces will be observed from Saturday, 29 until Mond=
ay, 31 October at 1200 hrs. Although the communique did not specifically me=
ntion the concerned districts and areas, additional Vehicle Checkpoints (VC=
Ps) will be dispatched in &ldquo;vulnerable areas&rdquo; in order to preven=
t criminal activities that the authorities say have been increasing.</div>	=

es in October reported by INSO remain relatively the same as the levels obs=
erved in the past months, in Mazar-e Sharif City and throughout Balkh Provi=
nce. However, the decision to further deploy VCPs and police forces is like=
ly in response to recent criminal incidents in Mazar-e Sharif City that had=
 high visibility in local media outlets. These included the killing of a we=
ll-known doctor in Karte Sulh on 26 October and several recent high-profile=
 attempted abductions. On 26 October, unidentified armed men attempted to a=
bduct a teenage girl in PD 1, behind Sultan Razia high school area of Mazar=
-e Sharif City, prompting an exchange of fire with GDI elements.</div>					=
