								<p style=3D"text-align: justify;">On 25 August 2022, at 1730 hrs, a=
n NRF checkpoint stopped a vehicle transporting NGO employees on the main r=
oad in the Rippsi area in Arghanjkhwa District of Badakhshan Province. The =
NGO workers were heading to Fayz Abad City. Initially, the driver did not r=
ealise the checkpoint was manned by NRF affiliates, nor did they notice any=
 vehicles in the vicinity of the checkpoint. The armed men were wearing pla=
in clothes and introduced themselves, in Dari, to the NGO workers as NRF me=
mbers. They asked the staff members questions regarding their movements, po=
ints of departure and arrival, their identities and employment, frequency o=
f road travel, and challenges with the current government. The NGO staff po=
litely replied to all questions, following which they were allowed to resum=
e their movement.</p>								</div>

ust 2022 is the first report of an NRF checkpoint on the Baharak-Fayz Abad =
Road, on INSO records, since 15 August 2021. NRF affiliates do not hold ter=
ritory in the vicinity of main roads, therefore, after the IEA takeover, mo=
torists are disaccustomed to interacting with OAGs.<br /><br />Repeated NRF=
 incursions on the main roads of the Badakhshan Province could lead to IEA&=
rsquo;s bolstering, even temporarily, their presence along the Fayz Abad-Is=
hkashem Road. Should the IEA assess the roadway connecting Fayzabad Distric=
t to the most eastern districts of the province became vulnerable to OAG ac=
tivity, it is likely the security forces' footprint will increase in the co=
ming month. This will impact travel time, as the scrutiny of the IEA forces=
&rsquo; checks will grow in the VCPs along the abovementioned road sector.<=

<div style=3D"text-align: justify;">The presence of OAG checkpoints poses a=
 risk of collateral for motorists. The IEA is likely to engage without warn=
ing in clashes with OAG affiliates upon encountering them. Given the proxim=
ity to the main road, the SAF could also impact nearby motorists, pedestria=
ns, and private assets. NGO staff members use the road regularly, and in th=
e event of hostilities between the security forces and OAGs could be impact=
ed by the crossfire. Drivers should limit the time spent in OAG-manned chec=
kpoints to reduce the risk of collateral.</div>								</div>
