> Initial reports suggest that two explosions have taken place at approxima=
tely 1230 hrs in and near the Gazergah Mosque, also known as Masjed Jomeh, =
in the minutes prior to congregational prayers. One of the explosions was c=
aused by a suicide bomber.&nbsp;<br /><br />The blast killed 18 people and =
wounded 23, as per official figures. However, the numbers are likely to inc=
rease over time. The wounded have been brought to Herat Regional Hospital, =
where a crowd of civilians has gathered, causing traffic on the boulevard t=
o be blocked.&nbsp;<br /><br />The <a href=3D"https://goo.gl/maps/rSK4qRCA6=
P4V3SNJ6">Kwaja Abd Allah-e Ansari</a> road connecting Herat City to Gazerg=
ah is blocked to civilian traffic by IEA forces, slight after the intersect=
ion with the road leading to Bam-e Herat.<br /><br />Fatalities and casualt=
ies include several IEA members, as well as civilians. A well-known religio=
us figure named Mujib al-Rahman Ansari was killed. The suicide bomber repor=
tedly came to Ansari and detonated his suicide vest as Ansari was walking f=
rom his house to the mosque. Ansari was known for his radical and uncomprom=
ising stance on both Muslims and non-Muslims. Ansari's brother, Habiburahma=
n Ansari, was also killed by the blast.<br /><br />Mullah Abdul Ghani Barad=
ar, the Acting First Deputy Minister of Afghanistan for Economic Affairs, i=
s currently present in Herat to attend a conference that concerned the econ=
omy. It is alleged that he met with Ansari shortly before the explosions. H=
owever, it is unclear whether he or his entourage have been impacted by the=
 blasts.&nbsp;<br /><br />Ansari and Baradar were likely the intended victi=
ms of the attack, although as per INSO's knowledge, there have not been for=
mal claims of responsibility yet.</div>								</div>
