<p>Thunderstorms and heavy rain are forecast across the Southeastern Region=
 in the coming seven days, bringing the risk of flash flooding in several l=
ocations that may cause road closures and delays for travellers in the regi=
on.&nbsp;<br /><br />The locations most likely to be impacted by flash floo=

y during periods of rain in the region, although roads are typically closed=
 for only a short period and therefore the impact for travellers tends to b=
e low.&nbsp;<br /><br />While main highways in the region are vulnerable to=
 flood closures, the IEA authorities prioritise opening these roads during =
disruptions, and long delays are rare. Flooding usually closes roads for no=
 longer than four to five hours, with many closures resolved after an hour.=
 On 07 July two secondary roads in Paktika (Matarkhan District and Sarhawza=
h District) were closed due to floods for approximately two hours before re=
opening. <br /><br />Ghazni Province is particularly vulnerable to flash fl=
ooding in the coming week, after heavy rain on 05 and 06 July caused seriou=
s flash flooding in many areas of the province, focusing on Nawur and Jaghu=
ri districts. The floods damaged numerous homes and destroyed crops and irr=
igation systems. However, there were no reported closures on major routes t=
hroughout the province, although floods closed secondary roads in both dist=
ricts. Travel on Highway One, the Ghazni-Sharana road, and the Ghazni-Garde=
z road was largely unaffected.&nbsp;</div>								</div>

abul to Kandahar via Highway 1 should be aware of potential disruptions in =
the stretch of road between Ghazni and Gelan. Disruption is also more likel=
y on the Gardez-Pul-e Alam road.<br /><br />NGOs planning to travel using s=
