strict. At the time of writing, they reached the <a href=3D"https://goo.gl/=
maps/WYUio287BowaFVH66">Shair Qala</a> area and reports suggest that they w=
ere advancing towards Balkhab's DAC <a href=3D"https://goo.gl/maps/qaY4RHfb=
tnGswU8j6">Te Khoch</a> with minor or no resistance.&nbsp;<br /><br />Uncon=
firmed reports indicate that the armed clash restarted when two IEA members=
 pretended to surrender, following which they detonated their BBIEDs. As of=
 2100 hrs, the IEA has also been reported to have used helicopter airstrike=
s. The explosions killed at least 20 of Mehdi's followers and allowed the I=
EA to enter Balkhab District.<br /><br />Further clashes are expected to oc=
cur across Balkhab, depending on the direction in which Mehdi's forces will=

me of writing, while Mehdi's followers continued to defend the <a href=3D"h=

itial reports suggest that two IEA members have been killed and seven have =
been wounded. Three of Mehdi's supporters have also been wounded during the=
 clash.<br /><br />Further confrontations are expected to occur as forces o=
n both sides remained in the area.<br /><br />The previous advisory to avoi=
d the area remains in place.</div>

 time and location above, an armed clash was ongoing between the forces of =
former IEA commander Rumi Mehdi Mujahid and the IEA. This clash was reporte=
dly initiated by Mehdi's forces after they ambushed several IEA members pat=
rolling the road between the <a href=3D"https://goo.gl/maps/o9CdvgLPeJ8oj9c=
s9">Ashtor Gardan Pass</a> and the <a href=3D"https://goo.gl/maps/Uxjtqk1PQ=
yvMZ2wB6">Koh Moshkhana</a>&nbsp;area.&nbsp;<br /><br />Casualties have bee=
n reported, though the exact number remained unknown at the time of writing=
.<br /><br />The road has been closed to civilian traffic since 21 June. Th=
e clash is a part of a broader effort of the IEA to regain control over Bal=
khab District, and further armed confrontations are expected in the area.&n=
