Grants and online workshop to create special projects for media and CSOs to 
Raise Public Awareness on Information about COVID-19

Join us in a 3-day online workshop on February 16, 17 and 18 for civil 
society organizations and media representatives who are ready to create 
joint projects aimed at combating misinformation and rumors regarding the 
COVID-19 pandemic. During the workshop, participants will learn how to 
analyze the stream of information about COVID-19, discuss joint efforts to 
mitigate the worst forms of misinformation and stigmatization, and develop 
ideas for their own media projects.

Members of civil society and media from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, 
Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are eligible to 
participate in the workshop. Media and CSO teams should formulate ideas for 
their media projects before the workshop and provide all the details about 
their planned projects in the registration form. During the workshop 
participants will finalize their ideas and have the opportunity to apply for 
grant funding.

The online seminar will include educational lectures, discussions, and 
workshops. We will discuss how COVID-19 affected human rights in different 
countries around the world together with experts - Anselmo Lee (professor of 
Gyeonggi University, co-founder of ADA (Asian Development Alliance), Erkina 
Ubysheva (civic activist and human rights defender, director of Smart Zharan 
Association). We will find out how rumors about COVID-19 are generated with 
the teams of Factcheck.kz and Three Dots, Know What You're Watching.

The topics of the workshops "Formats of media projects", "Engaging the 
audience with the topic of the media project", "Promotion of a media project 
at various venues" will allow participants to work on their ideas and 
prepare highly engaging media projects. The trainers are Olga Kaplina and 
Yerzhan Suleimenov. Olga Kaplina is a producer, editor, media trainer, and 
author of courses and trainings for CSOs called "Media Literacy", "Fake News 
in Media and Social Networks", and "Medical Fakes". Yerzhan Suleimenov is a 
media manager, media trainer, and the author of the courses "Media formats", 
"Media audience and its influence on special projects.

Innovation for Change in Central Asia will support up to 7 projects.

When formulating ideas for your projects, please consider:

*	the project must be placed in the active media of one or several 
countries: Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, 
Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan;
*	representatives of civil society organizations and the media must work 
together on the project;
*	projects may be implemented by teams from different countries or 
independently in each country;
*	the project implementation period may not exceed 2 months;
*	possible project topics: marginalized groups of COVID-19, raise awareness 
of the challenges felt by left behind population groups, create content that 
prevents stigma, hate speech, and aggression related to the COVID-19 
pandemic, and to who uses innovative approaches to creating media 
educational material.

Each applicant, if supported financially, must be ready and have the ability 
to implement the project. Each application must have an innovative approach 
to produce media and educational materials.
