Hi Ravi and Pakiza,

As you may know, we started to discuss in this week's AAP WG meeting
creating a document of minimum operating standards for AAP (including
community engagement) in organisations and their programming. This will
become THE document for collective AAP in the response and will replace
the overly broad AAP Framework we created in August 2020 just after the
AAP WG was formed, and a tool of indicators and actions for mainstreaming
AAP that our predecessor group, the old Community Engagement Working began
and the AAP WG finished last year. That tool has never really gained
traction among organisations. Additionally, current events in Afghanistan
require an up-to-date set of standards that address these circumstances.

I am arranging a core group of UN agencies, international NGOs and
national NGOs to work on this minimum AAP operating standards document. It
will be done in as participatory a way as possible without, I hope,
over-burdening core group members with lots of extra meetings, etc. Core
group members can contribute to a shared document, probably a Google doc,
at their convenience. We also will probably have a few coordination calls,
one at the beginning to launch the actual drafting, and periodic
check-ins. We will limit calls/meetings but still make it an inclusive
process for buy-in, including review and endorsement by the full AAP when
the core group has finished a draft. I anticipate us being able to finish
this within two months, so it is not a long-term commitment. Can you
recommend 5 or 6 of the strongest national NGOs (with a diversity of male
and female leadership, please) that I could invite to be in the core group
to work on this important document? I also hope that ACBAR itself will be
in the core group. It will be up to my successor as WG coordinator and the
co-leads to promote these standards and do trainings on them for
organisations that want to use them.
