as rigged in a small truck-type vehicle, indicating the use of a relatively=
 large amount of explosives.&nbsp;<br /><br /></div>
<div style=3D"text-align: justify;">As earlier reported, five attackers wer=
e involved in the attack; however, one of these attackers was most likely t=
he VBIED operative, while the remaining four proceeded the attack inside th=
e compound using SAF.&nbsp;<br /><br />Eight ANSF members were killed in th=
e attack (primarily close protection operators), and 14 were wounded. Furth=
ermore, two civilians were killed and 10 wounded. Aside from the casualties=
, the Minister of Defense's residence sustained significant structural dama=
ge, whereas surrounding buildings and vehicles also sustained some damage.&=
nbsp;<br /><br />IEA claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement r=

rs:</strong> The clearing operation ended at approximately 0100 hrs as ANSF=
 cleared the compound, and all attackers were killed.&nbsp;<br /><br /></di=

<div style=3D"text-align: justify;">The attack targeted the house of the Mi=
nister of Defense, which is neighbouring an MP of Baghlan Province. The min=
ister was having a meeting with senior government officials, local elders a=
nd military commanders, primarily from the north and northeast of the count=
ry when the attack was launched.&nbsp;<br /><br />The attack was initiated =
using a VBIED, followed by five attackers entering the compound, engaging p=
eople inside with SAF.&nbsp;<br /><br />All five attackers were killed in t=
he clearing operation, while four people were killed and 14 wounded as a re=
sult of the initial explosion. Casualty figures are however very likely to =
change.<br /><br />ANSF maintain a security cordon in place as an investiga=
tion is ongoing, blocking the area for civilian traffic.&nbsp;<br /><br /><=

 remains in place.<br /><br /></div>

ong> SAF continues to be reported from the area. The attack was most likely=
 initiated using a VBIED, targeting the house of an MP of Baghlan Province,=
 followed up by SAF. Reportedly, approximately two attackers entered the co=
mpound following the initial explosion. ANSF (CRU 222) responded to the inc=
ident and is currently engaged in a clearing operation.&nbsp;<br /><br /></=
