ived suggests that up to 1000 OAG members have assembled in Sar-e Pul Distr=
ict in preparation for an attempted takeover of Sar-e Pul City. This report=
edly includes OAG members from the neighbouring provinces of Faryab and Jaw=
zjan.&nbsp;<br /><br />2021 has seen an increased number of OAG attacks in =
Sar-e Pul District and the tempo of attacks has increased further in recent=
 weeks. However, the intensity of attacks grew notably in the past three da=
ys, possibly indicating OAG members are preparing for a major operation in =
the area.&nbsp;<br /><br />As of this evening, OAG members are in control o=
f all movement on the Shibirghan-Sar-e Pul Road, after a series of IED deto=
nations on 06 June damaged the road and rendered it impassable to ANSF conv=
oys from Shibirghan. Following the IED detonations, OAG members attacked an=
d overran at least 10 ANSF outposts on the road on 06 and 07 June. Addition=
ally, on 07 June, over 400 ANSF personnel from 11 remaining posts immediate=
ly surrounding Sar-e Pul City surrendered to OAG members and withdrew from =
their positions.&nbsp;<br /><br />Telecommunications networks have been cut=
 since 1300 hrs on 07 June, reportedly to comply with OAG demands. Telecomm=
unications services have been down in the province between 1800 and 0600 hr=
s since approximately two weeks ago but were still available during the day=
.<br /><br />Given the events of the past three days, ANSF ability to respo=
nd to an assault on the city will be limited by the large number of personn=
el who have surrendered. Additionally, with OAG members in control of the S=
hibirghan-Sar-e Pul Road, reinforcements and resupply convoys will be unabl=
e to travel south from Shibirghan to Sar-e Pul.&nbsp;<br /><br />However, t=
he apparently coordinated surrender of ANSF personnel on 07 June suggests t=
hat a negotiated takeover may be more likely than a direct large-scale assa=
ult on the city. In the event of a negotiated takeover, firefights between =
OAG members and ANSF personnel can still be anticipated within the city in =
the next 24 to 48 hours.&nbsp;</div>								</div>
