:</strong> In addition to previously reported casualty figures, seven civil=
ians were killed and 19 others were wounded by the blast which also destroy=
ed 10 ANP vehicles, in addition to destroying or critically damaging all th=
e structures inside the ANP HQ Compound.&nbsp;<br /><br /></div>
<div style=3D"text-align: justify;">IEA spokesman claimed responsibility fo=
r the attack on social media, releasing still frames from drone footage sho=
wing the targeted facility before, during, and immediately after the explos=
ion. The image of the moment of the attack showed the explosion occurring i=
n the inner yard of the compound, in a parking space surrounded by main and=
 auxiliary buildings. The images showing the moment of the attack and the i=
mmediate aftermath have been extracted from the same drone footage. However=
, the image showing the location before the attack is inconsistent with the=
 other two, featuring a different configuration of movable objects in the s=
cene and clearly indicating that this third image was extracted from anothe=
r, earlier footage, obtained during pre-attack surveillance. The pre-attack=
 image also showed an anti-ramming barrier at the outer checkpoint of the c=
ompound, approximately 25 m from the main gate, in the lowered position. Wi=
th only one reported OAG casualty--the suicide operative driving the SVBIED=
--it is highly unlikely that the attacker would have been able to approach =
the barrier, dismount, lift the barrier, return to the vehicle, and proceed=
 into the compound's inner yard without being detected and neutralised. Thi=
s suggests that the attacker's movement was coordinated with the drone oper=
ator communicating to him real-time situation in the target area; the attac=
ker then exploited the opportunity to breach the first checkpoint when the =
barrier was lifted, possibly to allow another vehicle to pass, and proceede=
d into the inner yard. The other possibility is that the attacker may have =
been granted entry past the first checkpoint, either by negligence or throu=
gh an insider, before compound guards at the main gate identified him and e=
ngaged with SAF but failing to prevent him from entering the compound's inn=
er area and detonating the explosives. In either case, the attack was caref=
ully planned and demonstrated the significant potential of IEA members enha=
ncing their attack capabilities through the use of airborne surveillance de=
vices such as consumer-grade drones, in addition to propaganda purposes.</d=

:</strong> The explosion was the result of an SVBIED detonation. The device=
 had been rigged in a Humvee-type vehicle and detonated at the main gate of=
 the ANP HQ. A brief armed clash erupted between OAG and ANSF members with =
SAF immediately following the detonation. Whether the SVBIED was part of a =
complex attack or OAG members engaged ANSF members with SAF from a distance=
 remains unknown at the time of this update.<br /><br />Three ANP members w=
ere killed and 13 others were wounded. The number of casualties is subject =
to change.<br /><br /></div>
<div style=3D"text-align: justify;">ANSF investigation continues at the bla=
st site, and the area remains cordoned off. The Pul-e Khumri-Kunduz Road is=
 open to traffic.</div>
<br />The previous advisory remains in place.&nbsp;<br /><br />
<div style=3D"text-align: justify;"><strong>As of 31 May, 2015 hrs:</strong=
> Contrary to initial information, updated reports indicate that the explos=
ion was the result of a VBIED detonation, likely targeting the ANP HQ. Whet=
her the device was initiated remotely or suicide-operated is being investig=
ated.<br /><br />Casualties have been reported; however, the number of casu=
alties is unknown at the time of this update.<br /><br /></div>

uring the area and searching for additional IEDs.<br /><br />The previous a=
