9 May, President Ashraf Ghani declared <span style=3D"background-color: #f1=
c40f;">11 May</span> to be a national mourning day in honour of the victims=
 of two recent attacks in Pul-E Alam City, Logar Province and Dasht-E Barch=
i area of PD 13 Kabul City.&nbsp;<br /><br /></div>
<div style=3D"text-align: justify;">The attack in Pul-E Alam City occurred =
on 30 April, when a VBIED detonated towards a guesthouse owned by a former =
Provincial Council member, killing 36 people and wounding another 100.&nbsp=
;<br /><br /></div>
<div style=3D"text-align: justify;">The second and most recent attack in th=
e Dasht-E Barchi area occurred on 08 May, when a VBIED and two further RCIE=
Ds detonated at the Sayid al-Shuhada High School entrance as girls classes =
ended for the day. The attack killed at least 55 people and wounded approxi=
mately 155, with figures still subject to change.&nbsp;<br /><br /></div>
<div style=3D"text-align: justify;">Mourning ceremonies will be held at all=
 government mosques throughout the country as people gather to honour the v=
ictims of the attacks. As such, ceremonies can be expected in mosques in an=
d around DACs and Governor Compounds throughout <span style=3D"background-c=
olor: #f1c40f;">11 May</span>, countrywide.&nbsp;</div>								</div>

and disruptions to traffic can be expected around areas hosting mourning ce=
remonies and more widely within larger cities.&nbsp;<br /><br /></div>

ced; however, protests did indeed occur following both the before mentioned=
 attacks, in Pul-E Alam City on 05 May in response to the attack on 30 Apri=
l and Bamyan City on 09 May in response to the attack in Kabul City on 08 M=
ay. Furthermore, previous mourning days did experience protests, most recen=
tly on 03 November 2020 when people took to the streets in protest of the a=
ttack on Kabul University, which took place the day before on 02 May.&nbsp;=
<br /><br /></div>
<div style=3D"text-align: justify;">Potential protests will likely result i=
n increased ANSF presence to manage the situation and could potentially lea=
d to clashes between ANSF and demonstrators. Reporting suggests that the at=
tack in the Dasht-E Barchi area of Kabul City resulted in negative sentimen=
ts towards ANSF and GOA among some segments of the population. As such, the=
 situation could potentially escalate and present a collateral risk towards=
 NGOs and civilians in the area. Furthermore, the ongoing IMF troop withdra=
wal could transfer this sentiment towards foreign-associated individuals an=
d organisations if presented as an opportunistic target for public despair =
and frustration.&nbsp;<br /><br />Attacks targeting gatherings and protests=
 have occurred historically in Kabul City and the wider country and can als=
o not be ruled out during the national mourning day. Gatherings of the Shia=
 Muslim Hazara community, who suffered most victims from the latest attack,=
 are likely and could potentially present an attractive target for further =
attacks.&nbsp;</div>								</div>
