ation"On Shaky Grounds: COVID-19 and Afghanistan's social, political, and e=
conomic capacities for sustainable peace", authored by Lucile Martin and Dr=
. Saeed Parto of the Afghanistan Public Policy Research Organization.

In Afghanistan, the COVID-19 pandemic coincides with ongoing political, eco=
nomic, social, and environmental crises. Fragile governance and socio-econo=
mic structures have been put to the test. It raises the questions of how cu=
rrent conflict dynamics and the nascent Afghan peace negotiations will be a=
ffected. In this discussion, we want to explore the pandemic's immediate an=
d second-order impact on local, national, and international structures vita=
l for sustainable development and durable peace. With the Geneva Conference=
 looming large, we also want to discuss the pandemic's impact on Afghan sta=
keholders' relations with donors and anticipated and necessary adjustments =
to international support to Afghanistan.

At the session, FES Director Dr. Magdalena Kirchner will briefly introduce =

nstitute of Peace, and Mr. Neak Mohammad Mohibi, Senior Advisor to the Depu=
ty Minister for Policy at the Ministry of Finance, before an open discussio=
n in which viewers will be able to ask questions to the authors and panelis=
ts.

The session will be moderated by Dr. Timor Sharan, Adjunct Professor of Pub=
lic Policy at the American University of Afghanistan.
