/20: </strong>reports indicate that, as of late last night, the intensity o=
f fighting has decreased in the previously mentioned areas, namely Babaji, =
Bashiran, Bolan, Chah-e Anjir, and Achakzai Shaakh areas. While there were =
reports of airstrikes in some of these areas, it appears that the coordinat=
ed operations of both OAGs and the ANSF have temporarily ceased. That said,=
 the potential for them to restart, as well as for sporadic armed clashes, =
remains, as does a substantial IED threat, both along primary and secondary=
 roads leading out of Lashkar Gah City. Relatedly, the Lashkar Gah-Dorahi R=
oad remains closed. The situation in Lashkar Gah City itself remains stable=
.<br /><br />Last night, the IEA's Official Spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahi=
d, announced that the IEA had cleared areas in Helmand Province which were =
taken from them by the ANSF over the past three months, though no details o=
f the areas referred to were provided. Indeed, it does appear that OAGs hav=
e retained control over Babaji area following the ANSF's withdrawal on 11 O=
ctober. Hundreds of families have reportedly been displaced as a result of =
the OAG and ANSF operations. Sources indicate that the potential for renewe=
d large-scale coordinated ANSF operations to retake areas such as Babaji is=
 high.</div>

alat, and Roshan's network services were disrupted. This has remained the c=
ase up to the time of writting, when only the Salaam Company's network was =

areas. Armed clashes were also reported to the east of Lashkar Gah City in =
Achakzai Shaakh area of Nahr-e Saraj District. See the map attached for the=
 specific location of these areas in relation to Lashkar Gah City as well a=
s a brief description of events. As of the time of writting, casualty figur=
es were unknown, as were the number of OAG members involved in their operat=
ions, though estimates suggest that it was above 100. Aside from an IED det=
onation in PD 1's Cinema Chawk area, Lashkar Gah City remains stable and an=
 imminent OAG assult on the city is considered unlikely.&nbsp;</div>

AG members are attempting to break the ANSF perimiter around Babaji area in=

<div style=3D"text-align: justify;"><strong>As of 0915 on 10/12/2020:&nbsp;=
</strong>Late last night, a large number of ANSF members, including command=
os and special forces, came to Lashkar Gah City from Camp Bastion, Kandahar=
, and Kabul. ANSF members have reportedly surrounded OAG members in Babaji =
area and special forces started their operations in the area last night aft=
er civilians left. The operations have also been supported by airstrikes. C=
urrently, the operation is ongoing and there are not reports of clashes els=
ewhere in Lashkar Gah District and the situation inside Lashkar Gah City is=
 stable. Thus far, ANSF members have reportedly arrested five key OAG membe=
rs, including the IEA's Deputy Shadow Governor, Mullah Ghafoor. As of the t=
ime of writting, casualty figures were unknown. Reportedly, between 1000-15=
00 ANSF members are taking part in the operation. IDPs from Babaji, Bashira=
an, Chah-e Anjir, Spina Kota, and Malgir areas were arriving to Lashkar Gah=
 City until midnight.&nbsp;<br /><br />Elsewhere, in <a href=3D"https://www=
.google.com/maps/place/31%C2%B043'06.3%22N+64%C2%B048'10.7%22E/@31.7062097,=
64.772068,12885m/data=3D!3m1!1e3!4m6!3m5!1s0x0:0x0!7e2!8m2!3d31.7184082!4d6=
4.8029702">Lashkar Gah Dorahi</a> area of Nahr-e Saraj District, OAG member=
s looted the equipment and vehicles of an electricity substation which prov=
ides electricity to Kandahar and Lashkar Gah.</div>

<div style=3D"text-align: justify;"><strong>1830 hrs, 10/11/2020:</strong> =
At the time and location above, folllowing armed clashes and a series of co=
ordinated attacks by OAGs against ANSF checkpoints, ANSF have conducted a t=
actical withdrawal from Babaji area, leaving it in the control of OAGs. The=
 events of today were the culmination of increased pressure from OAGs in th=
e area, in particular since 08 October. More broadly, over the past several=
 months, OAGs have increased their pressure in Nad-e Ali, Nahr-e Saraj, and=
 Lashkar Gah districts, especially along both primary and secondary roads f=
rom Lashkar Gah to neighbouring districts. As of the time of writting, only=
 sporadic clashes have been reported in Chah-e Anjir of Nad-e Ali District =
and Bashiraan of Lashkar Gah District. Reportedly, some civilians are attem=
pting to leave Babaji area and are heading to Lashkar Gah City, Nahr-e Sara=
j and Nad-e Ali districts. ANSF clearing operations in Babaji and neighbour=
ing areas can be expected over the coming day.&nbsp;</div>
<div style=3D"text-align: justify;"><br />Babaji area is located approximat=
ely 20 kilometres northwest of Lashkar Gah City Centre and is considered to=
 be a bordering area between Lashkar Gah and Nahr-e Saraj districts. Two to=
 three years ago, a large proportion of families displaced from northern an=
d western districts of Helmand Province settled in the area. The increased =
IDP population has put a strain on ANSF&rsquo;s ability to secure the area.=
 From 2015 to 2016, the area was one of the frontlines for OAGs and ANSF in=
 the district. After heavy fighting, IEA members successfully overran the a=
rea and held it for approximately three years. In late 2018 and the beginni=
ng of 2019, ANSF conducted a major clearing operation and successfully disl=
odged the IEA from the area and, prior to the last three months, it witness=
ed relatively few security incidents. The area is a highly strategic locati=
on, both for OAGs and the ANSF, due to its proximity to Lashkar Gah City, a=
s well as the fact that an important secondary road runs through the area.<=
